ChemComm: The Organic Materials Journal

ψ*ψ won't post it, so I will:

A new functionalization strategy for pentacene

Enjoy. Do pay close attention to the authors. ;)

(so the score is now: ψ*ψ 1, Excimer 0. I'd like to say I'm working on that, but... seminar... *gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaag*)

We don't have to keep score, do we?
Here's hoping you finish that seminar before it kills you. :)

Always good to see hot science babes get published.

This is very exciting. Please Jes if you have good procedures from this published paper (the procedures which did with your hands) and would like to share, I would be delighted to have tem in Org Prep Daily. Just a thought.

Since I went to the industry I have been publishing very little (apart from the patents). Small companies pre-merger actually publish more than the big ones.

Cool! Nice structure. Does it do anything in devices, or is that still secret?

Awesome!

We didn't really get around to making devices for these, at least not here. We have the equipment, but not the spare hands or the time. Perhaps some other unsuspecting undergrad will come along and do device work. I don't mind making solar cells, but I'm busy making (what I hope are) fun new n-type semiconductors.

Heartiest congratulations! Wouldn't have been immodest if you had posted about it :)

Excimer, is this a literature presentation seminar or research? We have to do a literature piece.

Excimer said...

It's a lit seminar. Trust me, you'll be hearing all about it... once the seminar's done, anyway. (That would be less than two weeks from now.)

Ok...good luck!

New knowledge is an uncontrolled threat to the State. o-Methylenedioxyaromatics are potential recreational pharma precursors. Destroy those who threaten the Homeland with unknown hazards. Save Our Children!

Suppose it is a class of xenocryptoestrogen antagonists, ending male homosexuality. San Francisco could be socially ablated at a stroke! (OK, a few strokes.)

Great! Now all you have to do is modify the attached units such that they direct the molecules to pi-stack. Now that you have the method down, this should be pretty quick... a couple of weeks maybe, right? :)

John E. Anthony's webpage (members subpage) is really funny.

Cool! Congrats!

What happens if you deprotect the pentacene diketal? Will it give you some funny bright quinones or black crap?

Members page is super, but where's Jes?

Uncle Al: I'm rather a fan of male homosexuality. Straight men are WEIRD. (And kinda creepy sometimes.)

The members page for our group hasn't been updated in a very long time. Only two people listed are still around. Interestingly enough, Dave has a picture up there as well.

Colorful stuff of black crap? Hmm, I don't know. If I had to venture a guess, I'd say black crap. Or probably fading not-black crap. Photostability in solution for a lot of pentacene derivatives, especially if there's air present, leaves something to be desired.

If you want I can introduce you to lots of creepy homosexuals, too...

Ψ*Ψ said...

Gay men, even the shady ones, generally don't hit on women. This kinda takes away a bit of the "creepy" factor.

Jes! Congrats! Yeh! Yeh! 恭喜!恭喜!

This reminds me one record-breaking bad joke
A pedophile: "How old are you, honey?"
"I will be seven"
A pedophile: "You wanna make a bet?"

Or when a little boy comes to a doctor and he asks how old is he.

"I gonna be four soon"
"Oh, we've got an optimist here, huh?"

Alternative punchline to milkshake joke:

I bet you were a looker in your time.

Straight men are WEIRD.

Yep. Sorry. Well, not really. I won't pretend that I can't help it, but I also won't pretend that I'm going to, either.

I did a few years in a Roman Catholic seminary in my youth. I have all sorts of creepy homosexual stories I could tell, but won't. I will say that I am sort of able to sympathize with women when they receive unwanted attention.

In my younger days, I was prone to angry outbursts, so I didn't get bothered much. And I think the gay men in seminary thought I was too much of a jerk to be interesting.

Another bad one:

A creepy old man comes home and finds his girlfriend sobbing and packing her stuff. "I am leaving you! I just found out that you are a pedophile."
"This is outrageous! People are making up some preposterous slander about me and they think that you'll believe anything they say just because you are ten years old."

uh oh

UCIC is not too far away... muahhahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

Excimer said...

that's UIUC, bitch.

You're welcome to come, but if you sit in the back and ask douchey questions you will not make it back to wherever the hell you came from ALIVE. Also I will be wearing a suit.

Excimer said...

Also, I can introduce you to ten million creepy gay men. Just cause they don't hit on women doesn't mean that they're not creeps. In fact, the gender-based social distinction, in a way, takes away the restraint of many gay men, making the really creepy ones even more more numerous... ugh, spare me. (And I'm not referring to gay men hitting on straight men, either. Just because he's gay too doesn't mean you have anything else in common.)

Okay, rant over.

Ψ*Ψ said...

Hey, now, I said it removes a BIT of the creepiness, not all of it!
I maintain that straight men are weird. Weirdness is not exclusive to straight men, though...

The creepy men that hit on young girls you are quite unremarkable. Perhaps they may not have any real emotions - but they have their strong urges. They might act in their odd and even kinky little ways - but in the end they seek and covet the very same things as everybody else does: the affection, friendship, understanding and respect. And lots of disturbing sex, too. So you should not be worried - and be rather flattered, Jes.
