yet another reason to avoid emo kids
On nearly every toy[1] in the (totally sweet) UCSB clean room, there is a red button like this one:
Some speculation has arisen among the interns as to the function of the mysterious EMO button. Is it something you press to alert the lab to the presence of an emo kid? Is it the button you reach for after a day of processing has gone horribly wrong and you want to slit your wrists?
Nah, it's just an emergency shutoff.[2] Still, you should take care to avoid emo kids. They may be infectious.
[1] "Toy" is short for "instrument that costs much more than I make in a year."
[2] I'm not in the clean room much at all, so I haven't had a chance to take a picture of one. This is the best image I could find. Google it if you don't believe me. What comes up is a little scary...

lol, emo button. i wish there was a emergency emo shutoff button. That would be awesome.
clean room pics coming up...
Crap, I want a button like that. We've got an emo kid in the next lab who keeps bugging me. I'd like a button to press every time she starts whinging that would taser her little pouty ass and get her to shut the f**k up.
Sigh. Been a long day. A very long day. (clean rooms sound like scary neat freak shit though, not sure I'd do well if I had to work in one. Neat is one thing I am not).
In my first US job we had a big red emergency shutdown button on the wall in the lab. The sign on the button was PANIC (I am not making this up). I shared that lab with few other Czech guys. In Czech "panic" means literaly a male virgin - but it is only used to describe something like an inept-but-eager nerd.
So we had this running nerdy joke about what would happen if a lonely man would push that big red button - (the emergency deflowering squad would arrive in instant - led with the oldest, meanest iron-clad Valkyre from the finance department).

Panic je na nic
190,000 Washington-supplied AK-47 assault rifles and pistols went lost in Iraq, guaranteeing need for a "continuing US military presence." It could all be fixed with one big bright red EMO button.
Where is Federal aid to the Gifted? Let's pour water on a Class D fire.
My girlfriend needs an EMO button sometimes...
"Emergency Menstrual Override"
The "That was easy" button is better
